Ms.jpg

Hi, I am Ms. Jennifer.

I am the artist behind Art in the Yard- Kansas City style. I love many other forms of art, especially music and poetry, and enjoy visiting The Nelson with my sons.

I taught myself to draw at an early age by freehanding characters from children’s books. I am still a fan of children’s literature.

Some of my favorite art experiences have been learning to make my own paper, silk painting, and batik. I hope to share my skills with you in future art experiences!

Art in the Yard KC Artist Jennifer Jones

I am a…

Mother, Artist, Teacher, Aunt, Sister, Friend

I have been working with children of all ages and families for almost twenty years. As an early childhood educator and self-taught artist, I work with many different mediums.

I enjoy learning new art techniques to share with others. I am thrilled to fuse my two life passions into an incredible experience for artists of all ages.

These are a few of my favorite things.

Favorite Artist.

Faith Ringgold is a beautiful, strong, talented woman who shared her art and beliefs in many ways through her quilted narrations, children’s literature, and social activism. Her most notable work centered around the civil rights movement. She is inspirational to many, and her activism has paved the way for other female artists of color.

Faith said, “You can’t sit around and wait for somebody to say who you are. you have to write it, paint it, and do it.” And she most definitely did.

Favorite Art.

I love visual and graphic art through many different mediums, such as drawing and watercolor.

I love American modernism. With a tendency to be abstract, you can see the individualism and experimentation within many of these innovative works of art.

Cultivate your creativity.
